A return home

It is with mixed emotions that I embark on this journey tonight

to Vietnam, to my roots

perhaps a return home.

For 32 years I have been away

first government imposed exile

then simply self-imposed exile.

Although I have always longed to go back

 to the village I spent the first few years of my life in.

I remember very little, in fact I remember almost nothing

But yet it has always beckoned me

Luring me home.

For 32 years I have been wandering

First in Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines

Then across the Pacific Ocean to San Jose, California

A return to Asia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

And now Brisbane, Australia.

A traveller in search of home.
